Surveillance after the election
Aaarrrgh! I did expect that all the news about surveillance don’t have a big impact on the election in Germany. But the result is somewhat frustrating! Almost 50% of the public have chosen the Capitalistic Dictatorial sUrveillance party (CDU). Yes, Germany is very healthy, at least under financial aspects. But is that all? Is the only important think in life to get more and more money? In case we would measure political success by happiness of the public, we would not see the CDU under the top performers…
And what does all this mean for the surveillance system? There is no Sabine Leutheusser-Schnarrenberger any more. She did stop the data preservation. The doors are open for more surveillance…

Surveillance before the election
I’ve been on vacation for two weeks now with little access to any media. Unfortunately the news are still full of new aspects of the surveillance system made by the NSA and other intelligence services. It is getting more and more obvious, how countries and companies work together. Statements from politicians, especially German ones, are just awkward.
We have elections in Germany in about one and a half weeks. I fear that all the news about the surveillance system don’t have any effect on the elections. So many people are affected, but there is probably no consequence. This whole story shows very well, what politicians think, how inconsiderately they can treat the public.
There was a demonstration in Berlin at least. About 15.000 to 20.000 people were on the streets so show that they don’t want a system of surveillance.

What is a surveillance society
There is a video on YouTube (sorry, German) that explains what a surveillance society is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iHlzsURb0WI
In times where mail provider stop their business so that they don’t need to provide the NSA with private data of their customers, one of the pioneers of the Internet and the inventor of PGP is shocked about the dramatic dimensions of PRISM and Tempora, the society should really start to think whether they do want all this.

I have nothing to hide. Really?
I saw a very good article (sorry, German) at Spiegel online. Do we all really don’t have anything to hide? I don’t think so. Even if we respect all of our laws etc. we have things that are private and should stay private.

Public enemy number one, or what?
Today I found a very interesting article (sorry, German) which is dealing with all this NSA and PRISM stuff:
http://priebshow.mathias-priebe.de/2013/07/10/classified-matter-mein-briefwechsel-mit-der-nsa/
When I read this, the film, which is mentioned in the title of this article, came to my mind.
I’m really curious how this surveillance nightmare will influence our society. We all should for sure stand up and show that we are against this surveillance system. This system is not just used to fight against terrorism any longer.
